Bar chords- root on the sixth string

Let me go straight to the Major chord shape. The figure below shows the major chord shape. As the root note lies on the sixth string, this chord is known as the F major chord or simply the F chord. Because you can see that the note you are playing on the sixth string is F note. Now suppose I shift this whole pattern one fret ahead, then the note we will be playing on the sixth string will be an F# note. So this chord will be
called as F# major chord.

The number written on the left represents the fret number. Generally if it is not written, then we should assume that it is the first fret. The dots represent the notes that you have to press with your fingers. The long line represents the place where your pointer finger is supposed to be. See that the pointer finger is grabbing all the six strings.
