Types of tunings

No doubt the standard tuning is used for more than 90 percent of the time but there are variety of tunings which have emerged through the course of time and they have found so many uses too. The interesting thing is that you can create your own tuning if you want to be experimental and have fun. The scope of this lesson will be praised by you only after you have gained some experience about playing guitar. By changing the tuning, the position of the notes on the fretboard changes and so the scale shapes and chord shapes. We generally change the tuning in order to make the playability easier and faster. But needless to say they have very specific kind of uses and I suggest you to stick to the standard tuning as a beginner. And after you have gained good skills, go with other tunings and have fun.
Here are the list of the tunings that are commonly used apart from the standard tuning.

1.Drop D Tuning (DADGBE)
2.Open G Tuning (DGDGBD)
3.DADGAD Tuning (DADGAD)
4.Drop A Tuning (AEADF#B)
5.C6 Modal Tuning (CACGCE)
6.Open D Tuning (DADF#AD)
7.Open C Tuning (CGCGCE)
8.Half Step Down (D#G#C#F#A#D#)
9.All fourths (EADGCF)
10.Major Third Tuning (CEG#CEG#)
Well these are some common kind of tunings. But there are lot more in the list. And i have already told you that you can create your own tunings too. So enjoy trying them and have fun.
