1.Try to listen to various styles of
music present today. This will immensely help you in improving your creativity
as you will certainly derive ideas and thoughts from whatever you listen,
consciously or unconsciously.
2.If it is possible, always try to get along
with other musicians and players. In this way you can exchange ideas, tips and
techniques and your learning curve will increase exponentially.
3.Practice regularly and consistently.
This is the only way to maintain and improve your techniques and skills.
4.Always tune your guitar before
starting playing or even practicing. This is very much necessary for your ears
to develop and prevent them from training in a wrong way.
5.Always practice with a metronome.
There is no meaning of playing with a bad timing. Music is all about timing.
6.Focus on accuracy and not on speed.
Accuracy is a must and speed comes with time. Have patience.
7.Before starting to play, always do
some warm up exercises. This will make sure that you get maximum benefit from
the practice session and will prevent any injury to your hands and muscles.
8.Know all the notes on the guitar
fretboard and practice forming chords and arpeggio shapes on the fretboard on
your own.
9.Always sit in a correct posture while
practicing guitar. This will save you from a long term injury.
10.While
playing always try to use least amount of finger and picking motions. Try to
develop ways to make your playing more economic.
