Ten most expensive guitars ever sold

NUMBER 10: 1949 FENDER BROADCASTER PROTOTYPE ($375000)

THIS WAS LEO FENDER'S FIRST PROTOTYPE FOR THE TELECASTER.



NUMBER 9: ERIC CLAPTON'S GOLD LEAF STRATOCASTER ($455550)

THIS WAS ORDERED BY ERIC IN 1996 AND FENDER MADE HIM THIS GUITAR PLATED WITH 23 CARAT GOLD. ERIC WANTED SOMETHING THAT COULD HANG IN A MUSEUM.



NUMBER 8: GEORGE HARRISON AND JOHN LENNON'S 1964 GIBSON SG ($570000)

THIS GUITAR WAS USED BY BEATLES DURING THEIR ALBUM REVOLVER AND WHITE.




NUMBER 7: STEVIE RAY VAUGHAN'S 1965 FENDER COMPOSITE STRATOCASTER (LENNY) ($623500) 

STEVIE RECEIVED THIS GUITAR FROM HIS WIFE LENNY AS A 26TH BIRTHDAY PRESENT IN 1980 AND USED IT MANY TIMES TILL HIS DEATH IN 1990.



NUMBER 6: ERIC CLAPTON'S CF MARTIN & CO CIRCA 1939 ($791500)

THIS WAS SOLD TO RAISE MONEY FOR HIS CROSSROADS REHABILITATION CENTER.



NUMBER 5: ERIC CLAPTON'S 1964 GIBSON ES0335 TDC ($847500)

THIS IS A RARELY PLAYED GUITAR BY ERIC CLAPTON DURING 1964.




NUMBER 4: ERIC CLAPTON'S STRATOCASTER HYBRID BLACKIE ($959500)

IN 1970 ERIC SWITCHED TO FENDER FROM GIBSON AND BROUGHT SIX STRATS FOR $100 EACH. ONE OF THEM WAS BLACKIE WHILE THREE WERE GIVEN TO GEORGE HARRISON, STEVE WINWOOD AND PETE TOWNSHEND.




NUMBER 3: BOB MARLEY'S CUSTOM MADE WASHBURN 22 SERIES HAWK
(ESTIMATED $1.2M TO $2M)

CLASSIFIED AS A NATIONAL ASSET BY THE JAMAICAN GOVERNMENT AND IS ONE OF THE ONLY SEVEN GUITARS OWNED BY REGGAE ICON


NUMBER 2: JIMI HENDRIX'S 1968 STARTOCASTER (ESTIMATED $2M)

THIS WAS PLAYED BY HENDRIX AT WOODSTOCK IN 1969 AND WAS BOUGHT BY PAUL ALLEN OF MICROSOFT IN 1998 FOR $2M.


NUMBER 1: REACH OUT TO ASIA FENDER STRATOCASTER ($2.7M)

IN 2005 THIS GUITAR WAS SOLD IN AN AUCTION IN QATAR TO RAISE FUNDS FOR REACH OUT TO ASIA, A CHARITY FORMED TO HELP TSUNAMI VICTIMS. THIS GUITAR IS SIGNED BY MICK JAGGER, KEITH RICHARDS, ERIC CLAPTON, BRIAN MAY, JIMMY PAGE, DAVID GILMOUR, JEFF BECK, PETE TOWNSEND, MARK KNOPFLER, RAY DAVIS, LIAM GALLAGHER, ROONIE WOOD, TONY LOMMI, ANGUS AND MALCOLM YOUNG, PAUL McCARTNEY, STING, RITCHIE BLACKMORE, DEF LEPPARD AND BRYAN ADAMS.
